Menzieshill High School pupils successfully took part in Dundee City Council’s Sports Carpet Bowls Competition at Douglas Sports Centre in December.

Our picture shows the pupils Michael, Arianne, Katie, Christopher, Robyn,, Nikki and Connor (Jacqueline Neill is missing from photo) receiving their certificates from George Laidlaw Head Teacher with staff members Nicki Bradwell (Classroom Assistant), Alison McCartney (Classroom Assistant) and Beverley Smith (School Support Worker).

The competition was played in a round robin format with each player playing 3 games. In Section 10, Katie McDonald (5A1) won all three of her games scoring a total of 14 points. Nikki Green (2A2) was runner up with 9 points. In Section 11, Christopher Wilson (1F1) won all three of his games scoring a total of 21 points. Michael Wallace (1F1) was runner up with 16 points.

Katie and Chris

Many of the games were closely fought and the pupils did extremely well considering they had only had a very brief coaching session the day before and had never experienced carpet bowls! Katie and Christopher received medals for their unbeaten performances… well done! The children’s behaviour was exemplary throughout the day and they were a credit to the school.

Thanks to Dundee City Council’s Sports team for organising the event.
