Welcome to Guidance and Social Education

Menzieshill High School is  ‘A Caring School’.  To achieve this we aim to

  • Ensure that this is a happy school where pupils are known as individuals and feel valued as individuals.
  • Ensure each pupil’s personal, social and intellectual development to their full potential.
  • Help each pupil become aware of his/her own behaviour and development and to accept responsibility for both.
  • Identify and respond quickly and appropriately to the specific needs of the individuals.
  • Encourage good working relations between pupils and teachers based on mutual respect and co-operation.
  • Help each pupil develop self-confidence as well as consideration for others and their points of view regardless of gender, race religion, etc.
  • Establish an effective partnership with the home with respect to all aspects of pupil development.
  • Liaise with all available support services in the interests of individual pupils wherever necessary.
  • Systematise and make effective the recording and communication of information relevant to the welfare of each pupil.

It is our intention set out how the planned provision of curricular, careers and personal guidance in the context of the school as a caring community is put into practice in Menzieshill High School.  Links will be added to all the areas below.

Downloads

We make worksheets, sound and video files available from our website.  These may require freely available ’plug-ins’.  These enable your computer to display the files, listen to sound or view the films or animations.  One of the most common is Adobe pdf.  Our files are checked when they are uploaded so will be safe to download.  Please follow the tips to keep your computer safe from viruses when downloading from other sites.

Internet safety

We work hard in the school to keep our website up to date and relevant.  If you spot anything, please do not hesitate to let us know and we will fix it.  Access to the internet in school is monitored and we block some websites. We cannot guarantee the content of other websites so parents should keep their computers secure by switching on anti-virus and parental control software.

We cover this topic in Social Education and advise is issued to all pupils in S1 ICT.
