The first two terms of 2009 / 10 session have been very busy for the Physical Education Department. As well as helping the first years settle into their new surroundings, we held the usual trials for the school football teams. The teams have now been selected and have played a number of games. All the teams have made great start in their fixtures.
We have also held football house matches for S1 and S2 during lunchtimes with Weem winning the S1 Championship and Aberfeldy finishing as S2 Champions.
We now have various extra curricular clubs running in school during lunchtimes - badminton, football, basketball, netball and dance. Swimming and water polo links are still in place with the Menzieshill Whitehall Swimming Club and run on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings.
Next term we hope to add a ‘girls only’ fitness club for S1 –S6 girls who wish to come along to try out various forms of fitness e.g. body pump, body combat, step aerobics and aquaerobics, in a female environment. We hope to provide more girls only choices in extra curricular activities to encourage promote and support their healthy school lifestyle.
Our S6 Sports Leaders have been helping our department throughout 2009 assisting with house games and the extra curricular activities at lunchtimes.
These pupils are also achieved their Rugby Coaching Level 1 Award with Colin Whitaker, who kindly offered his services to the school through Scottish Rugby at no cost to our sports leaders. We are grateful for his work with Menzieshill High and hope to continue offering rugby as an extra curricular activity on Thursday at lunchtime with Colin coaching.
Our Sports Leaders also helped with the Primary School Football Tournament at the Menzieshill Festival Day on 18th September. Once again Hillside primary won the Trophy.
