Planners

“… learners learn best when they know what is expected of them.”

LTiD key principle

Using Your School Planner

Guidelines for staff, parents and pupils

Introduction

Dundee City Council supports the use of Planners in all schools. In Menzieshill High School we recognise the planner is a vital part of raising pupil attainment.   Pupils are expected to use planners every day in every lesson.

Purpose of Planners

• Help pupils think about, talk about and improve their learning
• Encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own learning
• Promote learning both in and out of school
• Help pupils set realistic learning goals.

Aims for learning out of school

As staff, parents and pupils our primary purposes in using of planners are to:
• Support learning out of school (homework)
• Develop study habits and value learning
• Improve communication between pupils, parents and staff with regard to homework, supported study and setting effective targets
• Provide help and praise from teachers; and pupil responsibility for own learning

Commitment

We are committed to developing effective use of planners which will support pupils in their learning; require clear guidelines and sharing responsibility between pupils, parents and staff.
