The Feel Good Factor

S2 Curriculum For Excellence Project

Each year S2 pupils in Menzieshill High School are involved in a cross-curricular event.  The project is driven by the Curriculum for Excellence and the theme for 2008 is Health & Wellbeing.

The Feel Good Factor Programme

Week beginning 12th May 2008.

All pupils in all classes working on topics related to Health and Well being.

Department

Topic

English

Variety of topics to include healthy living posters and diaries, drama & video work promoting good health, news articles, War time story and follow up work on war time diet, working with Home Economics department.

Some of our pupils even made a short video on the dangers of smoking which you can watch.

Maths

Work related to packing project, working with Technicla department.

Modern languages

Preparation for a play, healthy German Food, working with H Ec dept, posters to compare German and Scottish health and exercise.

LRC

Display of health resources, staff should book in advance to access this.

Art

Planning and preparation work for sculpture project.

PE

Fitness and skills testing

Music

Preparation of motivational pieces of music for performances the following week.

Sciences

Healthy/non healthy foods – taste tests, working with HEc, identify the vegetable, design a healthy lifestyle board game.

History

War time rationing, effects on health compared with present day eating and health

Geography

Malaria – potential holiday risks

Modern Studies

Promoting good health in Dundee, poster competition

RME

Promoting a healthy balanced view of life

Technical

Preparation work for packaging project

Business Studies

Sport 4 life competition

Home Economics

Healthy eating activities, linking with science. DUFC player to speak to pupils about eating pre and post match

Computing

Designing a poster on ergonomics, linked with Art dept

Guidance

Health topics in PSE lessons

 

Swimming Gala heats – Periods 1 – 4, Tuesday 13th May

Haar Head project – 2E2 English section – Tues 13th period 3, Wed 14th period 4, Thurs 15th period 6 and Fri 16th period 1.  To take place in English and Art departments.

During the week, pupils will attend specific projects which are tiemetabled in different areas of the school.
