CHOICES AT 14+ : Role of Guidance Staff

Guidance staff  play a pivotal role in S3/4 subject choice.  During Social ducation, preparation for option choice begins in early January and continues until March.  During this time pupils participate in the following activities:

• Introduction to Option Choice
• Talk from Jacqueline Orchiston, Careers Advisor
• Explanation of ‘Which Way Now’ booklet produced by Careers Scotland
• Visit to Learning Resource Centre / How to Access Careers Information
• Decision making guidance / practice in course choice
• Preparation for ‘Make it in Scotland’ (Careers Scotland Exhibition)

In addition to this, each pupil will have an individual meeting with his/her guidance teacher to choose appropriate subjects for study in Third and Fourth Year.
