CHOICES AT 14+ : Principles of Choice of Course
The broad principles that underpin our choice of course programme for all S2 pupils are as follows:
Equal Opportunities
- Learning experiences will be available to all pupils, regardless of gender, race or capability.
- Boys and girls will be encouraged to consider non-traditional career opportunities.
- Girls will be encouraged to consider careers in Science and Technology.
Education - Industry Links
- Courses will include real life examples from the world of work.
- A Work Experience programme will be offered to pupils in S4. This will help to relate what is being learned in the classroom to the world of work.
Personal Development
- Pupils will be encouraged to develop study skills, communication skills and team work.
- Pupils will be encouraged to record and review their own progress.
- Pupils’ achievements will be summarised in a record of achievement called a “Progress File”, negotiated with their teachers.
Learning Skills
- Pupils will be encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning.
