CHOICES AT 14+ : Course Choice and YOU
Steps to take before making a decision
- Read through the course descriptions and discuss possible options with your parents.
- Listen to advice given about courses and levels. Look at your report booklet for departmental recommendations.
- Listen to the advice given by your Guidance Teacher and the Careers Service on course choice. Look at the Course Choice Form, (see APPENDIX 1).
- Remember all pupils must study subjects in areas 1 to 7.
- Remember there are new subjects available in Third Year that you did not study in Second Year.
- You must select one further subject in areas 8.
- Sometimes it is useful during coursing to consider a reserve choice of subject.
- Select a course which reflects your good grades in Second Year and gives you lots of opportunities in the future.
- Please do not select a subject because you like the teacher ( S/he may not take the class), or because your friends are taking it (You may fall out with them).
- You will have an individual interview with your Guidance Teacher to discuss your choice of course.
